Baris Cina, Tari Sakral di Sanur dan Kuta

Tari Baris Cina merupakan jenis tarian Bali yang diduga kuat mendapat pengaruh budaya Tionghoa. Selain dari namanya, hal itu terlihat dari gerakan dan tata busananya. Gerakan tarian ini lebih menyerupai gerakan pencak silat atau kung fu. Hampir tak ada jejak pepakem (gerak dasar) tari Bali dalam tarian itu. Busana yang dikenakan para penarinya pun unik. Mereka mengenakan setelan celana panjang dan baju berlengan panjang dan berselempang kain. Di pura tertentu, penarinya juga mengenakan kacamata hitam ala juragan Tionghoa. Sebagai penutup kepala, mereka mengenakan topi bundar, bukan udeng atau gelungan sebagaimana yang dikenakan oleh penari tarian maskulin Bali pada umumnya. Senjata yang dibawanya pun bukan keris, melainkan pedang.

Baris Cina ditarikan oleh 18 laki-laki yang dibagi atas dua kelompok. Sembilan orang baris putih, dan sembilan orang baris selem (hitam). Keduanya melambangkan rwa bhineda yaitu dua kutub berseberangan yang selalu ada di alam semesta ini. Dalam terminologi Thionghoa disebut dengan Yin-Yang.

Musik pengiring Baris Cina adalah Gong Beri yaitu seperangkat instrumen yang terdiri dari sungu, tawa-tawa ageng, tawa-tawa alit, kempli, kajar, bebende, klenang, cenceng, beduk serta gong ber dan gong bor. Gong Ber dan Gong Bor keduanya merupakan gong yang tak bemoncol di tengah-tengahnya. Ketika dipukul keduanya mengeluarkan bunyi sember, tidak merdu seperti gong yang bermoncol.

Begitu ditabuh, perangkat gamelan tersebut menimbulkan bunyi-bunyian yang membakar semangat. Persis seperti musik perang. Apalagi sebelum keseluruhan orkestra dimainkan, musik diawali dengan kumandang sungu (alat musik tiup dari kerang) yang terkesan seperti sangkakala peperangan.

Dalam buku Evolusi Tari Bali, pakar etnonusikologi dan pengamat tari Bali Profesor I Made Bandem memperkirakan tari Baris Cina tumbuh sekitar tahun 835, saat Prasasti Blanjong dituliskan. Tapi dia tak menjelaskan apakah Tari Baris Cina dan Gong Beri lahir pada saat yang bersamaan sebagai satu kesatuan atau dalam periode yang berbeda kemudian dikawinkan.

Tarian Baris Cina kini menjadi tarian sakral di Pura Dadia Banjar Kelod (Renon), Pura Mertasari Belanjong (Sanur), Pura Segara (Sanur), Pura Gerua Delod Peken-Intaran (Sanur), dan Pura Petitenget (Kuta).
